Homeowners that are in trouble due to rodent attacks often find it difficult to get rid of them. Even if they are successful in capturing them; they are not able to decide whether it is good to relocate them or kill them. This selection also depends upon the legal restrictions of the area where you live. Generally, it is not allowed to kill the rodents in most cities of the United States. However, you can think of relocating them to a safe place where they can find enough sources for survival. Many reports reveal that relocated rats are not able to survive at the new location because they are not able to identify sources of food and water around. Moreover, they can be killed by the predators at new wild locations as well. Hence, it is important to make an analysis, whether it is good to use live cage traps for rodents or not.
Many times, rodents prefer to visit human habitats in search of food and water. But the chances are that they are looking for some space to raise their babies in the area. They will often target the dark and noise free regions of your home to build nests. It can be attic, basement or the chimney as well. The rodent babies are born very small, without hair on their body, and they have poor vision; at the beginning stage of life, they are completely dependent on their mother. Hence, you have to be more careful whole relocating these creatures. It is important to take babies along with mother, but for that, you may have to wait for a few days so that babies can also walk independently.
If you use a trap to capture the mother rodent, make some efforts to get babies out of the nest by hand and take them along with the mother to the relocation site. But do not touch rodents with bare hands; rather prefer to wear protected gloves and clothes along with a facial mask to stay protected from harmful disease viruses. Generally, rodents are not able to locate sources of food and water at the new site, and it causes the death of the creature. Also, if you leave the babies behind and take the mother away, then also the babies will die of starvation.
There are so many odds associated to the relocated rodent, and there are very rare chances that it will find a way to survive. Even if it successfully locates the source of food and water; some predators are always ready to target these creatures. Hence, we cannot always say that using a trap to deal with the rodent problem is a good solution. Generally, it depends upon what you do with the captured rodent. It is good to take help from wildlife professionals to relocate the rodent to a safe area. They can also help you to transport the rodent safely from your home to a location far away from the residential area without even causing any harm to the rodent.
